Identity

The Wyrm's Tankard, a mobile tavern that travels between settlements
Civilization
Dragons

Appearance

• Physical: Thorvin's once-magnificent red scales are now dull and stained, his belly distended from centuries of excess. He is small for his age—only 70 feet—and has clearly let himself go. His eyes are bloodshot and watery, but still hold a spark of ancient intelligence. • Clothing: He wears a massive apron made from the sails of wrecked ships, stained with every type of alcohol imaginable. Around his neck hangs a collection of tankards from every civilization. • Distinguishing Marks: His left horn is broken off halfway, a souvenir from a bar fight with a giant.

Relationships

  • Family - Hasn't spoken to his clutch in centuries; claims they're all "stuck-up snobs"
  • Allies - His regular customers (a surprisingly diverse group), a network of informants who trade information for drinks
  • Rivals - The Sober Knights, a temperance movement that keeps trying to shut him down

Personality

  • Traits: Jovial and welcoming, surprisingly wise when sober, self-deprecating, haunted by past failures
  • Mannerisms: Hiccups fire when drunk, tells long rambling stories with no point, becomes maudlin about his "glory days"
  • Voice: Loud and boisterous, slurring slightly even when sober

Backstory

Thorvin was once a respected warrior and advisor to a great wyrm, but after failing to prevent a terrible battle that killed thousands, he retreated into drink. He eventually turned his self-destruction into a business, opening a tavern where all races are welcome and no one asks about your past. He claims to be happy, but the claim rings hollow.

Daily Life

Thorvin brews his famous (and infamous) drinks, serves customers of all races in his cavernous tavern, listens to their problems, and drinks himself to sleep each night. He moves his establishment periodically to serve different communities.

Secret

Thorvin didn't fail to prevent the battle—he caused it. A careless comment he made while drunk sparked the conflict that haunts him. He has never told anyone, and the guilt is slowly killing him.

Story Hooks

  • 1 Someone is using Thorvin's tavern as a meeting place for a conspiracy—the party must go undercover as patrons to investigate
  • 2 Thorvin's past has caught up with him, and someone who lost family in "his" battle has tracked him down seeking vengeance

Narrative Value

Thorvin provides a neutral meeting place, information network, and his guilt-ridden past creates opportunities for redemption or confrontation storylines. ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
