Appearance

• Physical: A lean, angular figure of cold grey wind standing sixteen feet tall, her form streaked with ragged dark bands that spiral around her like torn banners. Where most Air Elementals shimmer with silver-white light, Zinneth's inner glow has dimmed to a muted pewter, as though a lamp were burning low. Her eyes are sharp, dark steel -- watchful, wary, and carrying the hard edge of someone who has learned not to trust easily. • Clothing: Wears a plain, unadorned cloak of undyed Wind-Silk over a threadbare traveller's wrap, deliberately avoiding any symbol of rank or affiliation. • Distinguishing Marks: A visible gap in her upper torso -- a section of her form that never fully re-coalesced after the Equilibrium Guard forcibly stripped her Upper-class Resonance seal, leaving a permanent wound in her atmospheric structure.

Relationships

  • Family - Her parent-contributors publicly disowned her after the trial to protect their own standing; she has not spoken to them in over a century
  • Allies - A loose network of Lower-class and Outcast Air Elementals who rely on her mediation, a retired Equilibrium Guard officer who privately believes she was wrongly convicted, Driftfen (who occasionally passes her patrol intelligence about Warden movements in the region)
  • Rivals - The Warden who framed her -- still in power, still suppressing lower-class access to ley-nodes; a criminal fence who wants to recruit Zinneth's message-running network for smuggling

Personality

  • Traits: Fiercely independent, bitterly principled, unexpectedly compassionate toward the marginalized, struggles with suppressed anger at the system that cast her out
  • Mannerisms: Keeps her back to walls and her eyes on exits, speaks in clipped half-sentences that omit any unnecessary word, generates a faint cold front around herself when she feels cornered
  • Voice: Like wind through a cracked window -- thin, sharp, and carrying a persistent undertone of whistle that sounds almost like a warning.

Backstory

Zinneth was born through Confluence Birthing at a prestigious Nexus Cradle near Zephyr's Reach, the product of two Upper-class Air Elementals -- a Warden and a High Minister's aide. She trained as a Harmony Mediator at Zephyr Hall and rose quickly, earning a reputation for resolving disputes that other mediators considered hopeless. Her career ended abruptly 130 years ago when she discovered that a Warden in the Tempest-Ridge region was systematically suppressing Lower-class Air Elementals' access to local ley-nodes, effectively starving them of sustenance. When Zinneth reported the abuse through official channels, the Warden -- who had powerful allies on the Council -- counter-charged her with fabricating evidence. The Court of Equilibrium sided with the Warden. Zinneth was stripped of her Upper-class rank, barred from practising as a licensed Mediator, and exiled to the Tempest-Ridge fringe.

Daily Life

Zinneth operates from the margins. She mediates disputes among Lower-class and Outcast Elementals who cannot afford or do not trust official Harmony Mediators, accepting whatever sustenance-energy they can spare as payment. She serves as an informal message-runner between fringe settlements, carrying Resonance Pulses that the official Ley-Line Relay system does not serve. She sleeps in borrowed spaces and eats from the weakest ley-currents, maintaining a survival existence that would horrify her former Upper-class peers.

Secret

Zinneth has spent 130 years gathering new evidence against the corrupt Warden -- testimony from Lower-class victims, atmospheric energy records showing the ley-node restrictions, and most critically, a fragment of a Resonance Pulse in which the Warden explicitly orders a subordinate to falsify the case against Zinneth. The evidence is nearly complete, but presenting it requires access to the Court of Equilibrium -- and as a stripped-rank Elemental, Zinneth has no legal standing to bring a case. She needs someone with Upper-class or Elite standing to sponsor her petition, but anyone who does so will make a powerful enemy of the Warden and his Council allies.

Story Hooks

  • 1 Zinneth approaches the party -- or a patron the party serves -- asking them to deliver her evidence dossier to someone with the standing to bring it before the Court of Equilibrium, while she draws the Warden's attention away from the real threat.
  • 2 The criminal fence who wants Zinneth's network has kidnapped one of her Lower-class contacts and is demanding she hand over her message routes; she needs muscle to get her contact back without giving in to extortion.

Narrative Value

Zinneth exposes the darker side of Air Kingdom society -- corruption, class injustice, and the gap between meritocratic ideals and political reality. She provides a compelling quest for justice, introduces the fringe settlements as a distinct social environment, and offers moral complexity around working within or against a flawed system. ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
