ASTRID AURORA-SEER
FrostbornApprentice Shaman of Aurelia
"Have you ever watched the aurora dance? It's not just light - it's Aurelia speaking. If you watch long enough, you can almost understand the words.""
Identity
- Residence
- Aurora Spire
- Civilization
- Frostborn
Appearance
• Physical: Small and slight at 5'2", with the delicate build of someone who has never done heavy labor. Her translucent skin seems to glow faintly in darkness, a side effect of her connection to Aurelia. Her hair is an unusual pale blue, almost matching the aurora she worships. Her eyes are large and clear as glacial pools. • Clothing: Wears simple white robes that were once fine but are now worn thin. Her only jewelry is a pendant of aurora glass that catches light and throws rainbow patterns. • Distinguishing Marks: Her shadow is faintly colored like the aurora borealis, visible only in strong light. She has a birthmark on her neck shaped like a star.
Relationships
- Family - Parents are ice miners who are proud but don't understand her path. Has three younger siblings she's trying to help support.
- Allies - Elder shaman Valtor (NPC #52), who sees her potential; fellow apprentice Kira (NPC #71), her only friend.
- Rivals - Apprentice Maren (NPC #33), who comes from a noble family and constantly reminds Astrid of her low birth.
Personality
- Traits: Dreamy and distracted, deeply curious about the outside world, insecure about her humble origins, fiercely devoted to Aurelia
- Mannerisms: Stares at the sky constantly, especially at night, speaks in questions, twirls her hair when nervous.
- Voice: Soft and breathless, with a tendency to trail off into wonder at unexpected moments.
Backstory
Astrid was born during an especially brilliant aurora display, and the shamans declared her Aurelia-touched from birth. Her family was too poor to support her training, but the previous Aurora-Seer saw her potential and sponsored her education. She's now the youngest apprentice at the Spire in two generations, but struggles with the academic aspects of shamanism.
Daily Life
Astrid divides her time between studying ancient texts (which she finds difficult), meditating under the open sky (which she loves), and performing menial tasks for senior shamans. She sneaks out at night to watch the aurora and claims to receive visions, though no one believes her yet.
Secret
Astrid really does receive visions from Aurelia, but they're fragmented and confusing. She's seen something terrible coming to the Frostbound Wastes but doesn't understand enough to interpret it properly or convince anyone to listen.
Story Hooks
- 1 Astrid has received a vision of a hidden shrine to Aurelia that could contain lost knowledge; she needs help finding it.
- 2 Someone is trying to sabotage her training because they fear her potential; she needs protection and help identifying her enemy.
Narrative Value
Innocent viewpoint character, potential prophet, quest giver for vision-related missions, character who can grow and develop, connection to the wonder and mystery of Frostborn spirituality. ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
