Identity
- Residence
- Wind Caves
- Civilization
- Frostborn
Appearance
• Physical: Thin and wiry at 5'10", with the build of someone who doesn't get enough regular meals. His pale skin has a permanent wind-chapped redness. His white hair is wild and unkempt, constantly blown by cave winds. His pale blue eyes have a distant, listening quality. • Clothing: Wears patched and mended furs that have seen better decades. His boots are held together with sinew and hope. Carries a wind-chime staff that rings with strange harmonics. • Distinguishing Marks: His ears are slightly pointed - a minor mutation some claim comes from too much exposure to the caves' strange winds.
Relationships
- Family - None known. The previous head attendant, now deceased, was the closest thing to a parent.
- Allies - Shaman Yrsa (NPC #4), who values his readings; Attendant Mira (NPC #48), his only real friend.
- Rivals - Shaman Kael (NPC #28), who believes Kjell's connection to Boreas is "unnatural."
Personality
- Traits: Eccentric, deeply spiritual, socially awkward, surprisingly perceptive
- Mannerisms: Tilts his head as if listening to something others can't hear, speaks in wind metaphors, startles easily.
- Voice: Whispers more than speaks, with sudden bursts of volume when excited about spiritual matters.
Backstory
Kjell was found as an infant at the entrance to the Wind Caves, apparently abandoned. The attendants raised him, and he showed an uncanny connection to Boreas from childhood. He's never left the caves for more than a day, claiming the outside air "tastes wrong." He's the most sensitive wind-reader in generations.
Daily Life
Kjell tends the Wind Caves, guiding pilgrims, maintaining the sacred spaces, and interpreting the winds' messages for those who seek Boreas's counsel. He sleeps little, claiming the winds speak to him in dreams.
Secret
Kjell has heard something in the winds - a message about a great betrayal coming to the Frostborn. He doesn't know who to trust with this knowledge and it's slowly driving him mad with worry.
Story Hooks
- 1 Kjell needs help interpreting a particularly disturbing wind-message that suggests danger to the Frostborn.
- 2 Someone is trying to silence him because of what he's heard; he needs protection while he figures out what to do.
